Rome by lachlan farr

Did you know Rome is named after its creator Romulus? Rome is one of the biggest empires ever. I am going to talk about the Roman army, Roman emperors, Roman gladiators and ancient roman structures.

The Roman army was one of the biggest in its time. The Roman army at its largest had roughly half a million soldiers; it was an honour to fight for the army and die in battle. however Some of the soldiers would help build roads or learn to make weapons instead.

Did you know 82 Roman emperors were assassinated? Gaius Julius Caesar being one of the more famous emperors to be assassinated. Sixty people conspired against him but he was only stabbed 23 times. One of the most evil emperors was Caligula who was completely insane. While the best emperor was Trajan he is considered by historians as the best roman emperor in his 19 year rule he conquered many lands, built structures and increased the wealth of Rome in general.

Did you know 400,000 gladiators died in the colosseum? Most gladiators were slaves their owner would send them in, the slave would not get paid instead the owner would take the money. But some people would volunteer so they would get the money instead.

Did you know there are 52 roman monuments? One of the most famous structures is the roman Colosseum which would house gladiator tournaments. Another famous building is the temple of Jupiter. It was the most important temple in ancient Rome because it was used as a religious place and is now an important part of the culture.

In conclusion, Rome is the greatest empire to ever exist. They had the biggest army in their time and made many great innovations; they also made the first concept for a government. As Augustus said, I found Rome a city of bricks and left it a city of marble.
